Traditional skin resurfacing is an effective and popular skin rejuvenation treatment with many uses and benefits. It’s a great choice for many as it’s not particularly invasive, painful, or risky, though different methods have different pros and cons.
Some methods of skin resurfacing are better than others and the right one for you depends on many things. You’ll need to consider your goals, your concerns, your skin type, your age, and even your budget.

Who is a Good Candidate?
The Morpheus8 device is gentle and versatile, but it’s still not for everyone. It’s always best to speak with a medical professional before proceeding with a treatment like this. They may recommend against laser skin tightening treatments under certain conditions:
- If you have an autoimmune disease, a weak immune system, or have a connective tissue problem
- If you have a history of keloid scars
- If you’ve had radiation therapy on your face
- If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding
- If you’re prone to cold sores or have a recent history of them
- If you’ve taken an acne medication known as Amnesteem (isotretinoin) in the past year
- If you have darker or very danned skin. This doesn’t automatically count you out, but certain skin tones may present a bigger risk. This should be discussed with our professionals before beginning.
- Diabetes and other chronic conditions may affect results. Our skincare professionals can go over this with you in more detail.
- It’s best to quit smoking for at least two weeks before treatment for optimal healing conditions and the best possible results.
If any of these things are of concern to you and/or your doctor, it may be best to pursue other methods of skin resurfacing. For example, regular microneedling will have similar effects, but without the benefits or risks of the laser.

- Morphus8 is a professional device and should only be handled by qualified professionals. Even better is when you can get someone with lots of experience. This is how you eliminate any discomfort and minimize the risk of side effects. You shouldn’t receive treatment from anyone who isn’t qualified and doesn’t make you feel 100 percent comfortable and confident. Microneedling and certain chemical peels can even be done at home if you can’t travel.
